Many students Around The World are not choosing science subjects at University. (Writing Task 2)

The admission rate at universities around the world is reducing in the science subjects. What are the reasons for that and impact on the community of this trend?

The enrolment in the science stream has been falling as learners are not opting these subjects. While this happens because it is difficult to study this stream and high tuition fees, it affects the growth of technology and the economy of nations.

To commence with, students are choosing other subjects such as arts and commerce over science because they have to do more hard work as well as perform numerous science experiments to obtain a degree. Whereas, if learners opt for other fields, they do not need to submit any research work to become a graduate. For example, learners have to remember numerous laws and its symbols which is not there in other streams. Moreover, a science degree is more costly as they have to pay more fees to study as compared with other streams where tuition fee is negligible. For instance, the admission fees of Medical degree is almost four times the Commerce. Thus the enrolment rate is low in science subjects.

Furthermore, a decline in enrolment rate in the science field would affect the research rate of countries as there would be a shortage of scientists resulted in the slow growth rate of technology. To illustrate, India lacks behind other nations in technology due to lack of workforce in the engineering field. Moreover, countries have to rely on each other for technical equipment and technology transfer. Therefore, they have to buy technology from other others, and it affects the economy of nations. For instance, recently, India purchased 300 fighter planes from France and paid 90 million dollars to procure them. Hence, it affects technological advancement and financial growth.

To summarise, the fall of admission rate in the science field is due to its difficulty level and high cost of study. That resulted in the reduction of research rate and slow growth of the economy.
