Some companies require their employees to wear a uniform (Writing Task 2)

Workers have to wear a uniform in many organisations. What are the advantages of wearing a uniform and its disadvantages?

Many organisations have made a rule for the workers to wear a company's dress while working in it. The benefits of the dress code are that it is a source of free promotion and gives identity to employees. However, it has drawbacks in the form of increased financial burden and fall in the confidence of workers.

On the one hand, the advantages of uniform are that when employees wear it while coming to work and go back home after their shift, many people would see organisations name and logo. Therefore, it is the best way to promote the company without any cost. For example, Swaraj is a multinational company, and its employees have to wear a uniform at work. Consequently, it boosted its sales and helped in the growing organisation. Moreover, it would be easy to identify the workers while working because organisations use specific dress code according to the type of work and department. For instance, construction companies use yellow, green and white colours to identify their employees on the construction site. Thus uniforms promote without any cost and assist in identifying employees rank.

On the other hand, if organisations use a dress code, it put an extra burden of finances on them. This is because they have to provide all the necessary resources to make a dress such as material and other accessories. To illustrate, last year, the Ford company has to bear the extra financial burden of 1 million dollars to give uniforms to its employees. Furthermore, workers might lose their confidence when the company apply compulsion to follow a certain dress code. So, they are not allowed to wear clothes of their own choice; as a result, they would lose their moral and may feel irritated. For instance, in a survey conducted by WTO, it is found that workers were not fully concentrating on work due to dress code. Thereby the efficiency of workers is reduced by twenty percent. Hence, it affects the company's finances and its productivity.

To summarise, the benefits of making uniform compulsory for employees would give free publicity and can easily classify them. But, fall in profit and work efficiency are the major drawbacks of it.
